Contentment with the Decree of Allah  Allah (Ridaa) is one of the acts of worship of the Heart. The Messenger of Allah,  said:--''He has tasted the sweetness of Faith: he who is content with Allah as his Lord, Islam as his religion and Muhammad as his Prophet''. [Muslim] We therefore need to know that God has portioned for us (for each one) our provision. As long as we work, we get what is written for us. In this regard, he  said:--

''Know that even if the whole of community were to gather together to benefit with
something, they would not benefit you with anything except that which Allah has already
recorded for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with something, they would
not be able to harm you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded against you''.
                                                                                                                       [at-Tirmidhi]

Simply possessing the knowledge should empower us, because we thereby know that everything that happens is by the permission of God Almighty. This should not prevent us from reflecting and trying to figure out how our actions played a role, but learning from an experience is part of contentment because you trust that God is teaching you a lesson through trial.

Haq, bhai.

Amongst the highest stages one can reach is that one has Qana`at and makes Shukr in whatever circumstance he may be. According to some Mutasawwifeen to make Shukr upon a test from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta`ala is even greater than making Sabr. Also, Sabr will eventually come to an end (for the Muslim, in Jannah) while Shukr is such an act of `Ibadah which will never come to an end, even in Jannah. The people of Jannah will forever make Shukr to Allah Ta`ala for the Ni`mats which He has bestowed on them, so this (Shukr) is one of the only acts of `Ibadah which will last forever. (Namaz, Roza, Hajj, Jihad, Zakaat, etc. all come to an end after the Muslim passes away.)
This is the great status of Qana`at and Shukr, so may Allah Subhanahu wa Ta`ala grant us these qualities, Ameen.
